John Locke on the Bible

In the pursuit of liberty and freedom, the Founding Fathers were acutely aware that a democracy had to be governed by something. If it wasn't ruled by a monarchy or a dominating religious presence, then what would it be? A tremendous amount of thought went into answering this question in the decades before, during, and after the Revolution, when the principles of the Bible were intentionally woven into our judicial system. John Locke wrote extensively on the topic:

[L]aws human must be made according to the general
laws of Nature, and without contradiction to any positive
law of Scripture, otherwise they are ill made.
