Independence Day



The American colonies were once ruled by a bad King, much like God warned Samuel about when we trust in and depend on earthly kings instead of God:

“’This is what the king who will reign over you will do: He will take your sons. . . He will take your daughters. . . He will take the best [of everything you have]. . . and you yourselves will become his slaves.’”
- Paraphrase of 1 Samuel 8:7, 11-18

Thankfully, the leaders of the 13 American colonies decided to declare independence from the rule of the bad King and rule themselves. In the
Declaration of Independence, they declared:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,

These truths of our Creator God are self-evident, as the Apostle Paul says,

“since what may be known about God [the Creator] is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.”
- Romans 1:19-20

The founding fathers also declared the role and limited power of government:

That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it,

By God’s Providence and the leadership of General George Washington America became a free and independent nation!
George Washington said,

“It is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the Providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor.”
- George Washington, October 3, 1789
