Disciple: Notes from Stuart Briscoe



Notes on being a disciple of Jesus Christ from Stuart Briscoe's message delivered at Maranatha Bible and Missionary Conference Week 5, 2017.

The word disciple is used 100's of times in the new testament. One of the first actions Jesus took in His ministry was to recruit disciples.

the four critical rules of firearm safety

The Four Critical Rules of Firearm Safety:

1. Consider all weapons to be loaded at all times.

2. Never point a weapon at anything you do not want to put a bullet through.

3. Never put your finger on the trigger unless you want to shoot.

4. Know your target and what’s behind it.

Civil Government: The Mayflower Compact

Liberty: The Higher Law and Moral Framework of Liberty



Samuel Adams taught that people will not give up liberties or be subdued if they have knowledge and virtue. But if they are ignorant and immoral (un-virtuous), they will be defeated without foreign invaders. Krisanne Hall says "with knowledge there is power." (1)

What informed the founders that they would be willing to give their lives, fortunes and sacred honor to fight for liberty?
They had knowledge! (2)

The American colonies were once ruled by a bad King, much like God warned Samuel about when we trust in and depend on earthly kings instead of God:

“’This is what the king who will reign over you will do: He will take your sons. . . He will take your daughters. . . He will take the best [of everything you have]. . . and you yourselves will become his slaves.’”

Hope: Modern Day Idols and Idolatry of the Church



Do not trust in politicians, they can not save you. When they die they return to the earth, and on that very day their plans perish!
Psalm 146:3-4

Why do so many people today put their hope in government and politicians?

Because the Church has been "led astray from a sincere and pure devotion to Christ" (2 Corinthians 11:2-4) and has become friends with the world and enemies of God (James 4:4-5).

Church: Mission of the Church

1. Doctrinal Soundness
2. Relational Wholeness
3. Missional Faithfulness
